DAM BeasleyThe country is in the middle of some massive heat advisories and there are many things you can do to stay hydrated. Not to mention there are things you should know before venturing out in the dangerous heat. These types of temperatures can be life threatening not just for us humans, but for pets too.
Obviously, drink plenty of water. Even if you think you're drinking enough, DRINK MORE. Most of the time, we don't realize we're dehydrated and you won't know it until it's too late.
Replace electrolytes: When you sweat, you lose electrolytes. There are tablets you can take or drinking sports drinks or coconut water will help replenish.
Limit alcohol and caffeine: Both alcohol and caffeine can contribute to dehydration. Instead of coffee, try more water.
Dress appropriately for the weather: Lighter clothing will help
Find shade: Try not to stay in the sun for extended periods of time. Especially if you're walking your pet. They get hot too and can't tell you when they're overheating.
And when it comes to pets, DO NOT LEAVE THEM IN YOUR CAR FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME. This obviously goes for kids, elderly etc. The temperature in a car can rise 20 degrees in 10 minutes. Imagine being trapped in a car even with the window cracked and being too hot and you can't let yourself out. Heatstroke can be the result of this which can cause death. If you see an animal in a hot car, DO NOT WAIT, call authorities immediately or assess the situation and do what you need to to rescue the pet.
