Social media is a gift and a curse. When it first was created, it allowed us to reconnect with people we hadn't seen in years. While it's still used for that purpose, there are several other things it is used for today that can be considered useful. However, many blame social media for our obsession with material things and an inflated belief in what reality is. Regardless of how personally feel about social media, here is an example of social media and the good it can bring.

Victoria Hoffman is an 18 year old from Pennsylvania who went to TikTok asking for advice about her potential prom dress after she'd gotten a prom invitation. She claimed she was excited because she never went to dances and realized she didn't have anything to wear. She ordered her dress on Amazon and made a video on TikTok asking if it was okay because it was all she could afford. What happened next blew her mind. She began to receive donations from all over. People were offering to donate dresses, shoes, accessories. She even received monetary donations which Victoria says will help her pay for her EMT training. “I had no way to afford it. And now I can; it’s going to be possible. I’m gonna be five years down the line in the back of an ambulance and be like, ‘Oh my God, TikTok made this happen.’"
