Rethinking your social media. It's something that I've been doing a lot of lately. I'm talking about personal social media accounts, not ones you're using for business. Your personal Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc. We were having a conversation on the morning show about likes, follows, what we use our social media for, and how we use it. The conversation was eye-opening.

What Do You Use Social Media For?

While talking about social media, we got to addressing likes and follows. It's taken me a while to get here, but my current position about what I post is this. My social media is for me first. I want to post about what I like, what I believe, who I am, what I want to put more of out into the world. There were times that I posted things and later thought to myself, "That's not me, why did I post that?" Was it to impress other people? To get more likes? To try to go viral? In some instances, yes.

But after being on social media for many years now, I've gotten to the point where I've realized that what I post does matter. I matter, and no one can put out into the world what I can. And it's the same with you. We're all special and unique, and what a great opportunity we have to have an effect on other's lives. Remember, this can be positive or negative, so you decide which you want to put out there. Rethinking your social media. Here are some ways you can do that.

Rethinking Your Social Media - 4 Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Post

As you're rethinking your social media, keep in mind that you don't have to answer yes to all of these questions. But if you're someone trying to be authentic, helpful, and/or positive, you should at least give one or two of these a quick thought before posting.

  1. Does this post reflect who I am? - Are you being yourself, or trying to copy someone else? Authenticity and sincerity win every time.
  2. Do I feel good about this post? - If you're looking to put more positivity into the world, your post should at the very least make you feel good.
  3. Will this post make someone else feel good? - See #2 - If your post makes you feel good, it will pretty much follow that someone else will feel it too. You may not change the world, but you could chance someone's world.
  4. Will your post help someone learn more about you? - Personally, I believe that through everything we share, or post we see, we learn something about the person who shared it. Getting followers and building a community will happen a lot quicker if people get to know who you are.

Happy posting, and I hope these tips will help you if you're rethinking your social media.
